Van and ferryPrivate van from the Cancun airport to Chiquilá, then the ferry to the island

What it is based on

A private 15-seat van costs $420 each way for the group. The ferry costs 300 pesos a person each way. This price is fixed for 8 people.

How the day works

The van takes approximately 2 hours to the port at Chiquilá. Ferries leave every 30 minutes from 6:00 to 21:00, and the crossing takes 25 minutes. Pay for the ferry at the port. The island has no cars, so golf cart taxis take you and the bags to the house. Land in Cancun by early afternoon on the first day, and take a morning ferry on the last day.

Why Villa Moopich

It is on the beach, it has a pool, it has the most reviews of any house here, and every couple gets a bedroom. It is 7 minutes on foot from town, so the restaurants and bars are close. Most of the other houses sit at Punta Cocos, west of town. That end is quieter at night and has the sunsets.

800 to 1,200 pesos a night for the cook, plus 250 to 400 pesos a person a night for groceries, with a 15% tip. No one publishes a rate, so this is an estimate. The legal minimum for a household worker is 342.47 pesos a day.

Ask the owner or manager of the house for a cook when you book. If the owner has no one, a hotel or restaurant near the house often knows a cook.
